Kindred Blood Trilogy by Amber Riley: Guest Post {CBLS Promotions}

Today I have a special guest post from Amber Riley promoting her series, Kindred Blood Trilogy. Enjoy!

When I first began writing the Kindred Blood trilogy, I hadn’t intended for it to be longer than one novel, but I got to a place in The Flash of a Firefly where it just felt right to end things. The problem was that there was still so much was left unanswered.

I sat down and really thought about where things needed to end in the long run. Kaden still had to help Max and the vampire hunters like he promised. He also still had to settle things, once and for all, with Phoenix. Every novel was launched from the events in the one before it. Each was important enough, in my eyes, to deserve its own novel.

I didn’t realize that writing a trilogy would a real challenge. It’s never good to assume that someone has read the earlier novels in a series. The further into a series, the harder it is to catch the reader up without info dumping. Catching my readers up in The Well of Truth was relatively easy. Catching them up in The Land of Tears was a bit more difficult.

So much had happened in New York, and then Rome, that I was worried readers would get lost. It took a lot of extra care to weave the details of the first two novels into the third. As the author, it wasn’t always easy to know what had to be added. I knew everything that happened. To me, it was all important enough to repeat. It took a lot of editing to weed out the unnecessary details and add in ones I originally overlooked.

Making sure The Land of Tears could be read alone was something that worried me for months. After a few rewrites, I’m confident that none of my readers will feel they are out in left field.

Thanks for stopping by Amber!

Kaden has made a promise to the Iustitia. In exchange for helping the vampire hunters rid Rome of their supernatural infestation, he will never be hunted by the church-assuming he makes it out of the country alive. With a master vampire who is letting the city be terrorized, Kaden must uncover his true motives before it is too late.

Something dangerous is closing in on Kaden, and he cannot afford to be weak. Inside Vatican City, the vampires are more vulnerable than they have ever been. But with his independence on the line, Kaden is breaking every rule in the book, putting everyone's lives at risk. Worse yet, he is feeling things again-things he has not felt in centuries. He must find a way to completely sever his ties with the past. Unfortunately, in a city that is supposed to be off limits to all vampires, Kaden finds more than he bargained for-and loses even more.

"The Well of Truth" tells a haunting tale in which a hardened vampire will realize that some secrets are better left in the dark.

Spain is the one place Kaden never planned to see again. Years after he escaped the master vampire, he has never looked back—until now. As he stands before enemy vampires and werewolves, he knows that determination is the only thing that can save Lyn from her captives. Everything Kaden has worked so hard for has to be forgotten. He must become a ruthless killer once again.

After everything Kaden has done to remain free, he has purposely walked back into his old life, leaving his friends behind in order to protect them. Now, in the midst of a bad game of hide and seek with Phoenix, Kaden must fool everyone into thinking he has returned for all the right reasons. But Phoenix is not easily swayed. He still resents Kaden for leaving and letting Tobias out of his tomb. Kaden is running out of time. If his plan fails, there will never be another opportunity.

In the third tale of the Kindred Blood series, a young life depends on whether Kaden can convince Phoenix and his fellow vampires to trust him. One way or another, things are about to end where they all began."

EXCERPT:
The headlights of a Volkswagen blinked at me once. I approached the car and bent to the driver’s side window. “Hey, Max.”

“Hello,” he replied slowly. He turned in his seat to look behind him. “Gabriel, are you sure about this?”
“We talked it through last night,” he said softly. “It will be fine.”

Max sighed. “Just remember what they said.” When Gabriel didn’t answer, he continued on. “Your brother has been filled in, like you asked. But please stick to the plan. I don’t want to make that phone call.”

Gabriel’s pale hand reached for the handle. I quickly opened the car door and helped him onto the street. “I am perfectly clear on what is going to happen.”

Max said a few lines in Italian. Gabriel smiled and replied. I didn’t know what they said, but it seemed important. The look Max gave me before driving away was unreadable, but it was clear that our relationship hinged on how the night ended.
