After stepping on campus, Phe immediately realizes that there’s something different about this place—an unexplained epidemic that decimated the town in the 1700s, an ancient and creepy cemetery, and gorgeous boy Zach—and somehow she’s connected to it all.

But the more questions she asks and the deeper she digs, the more entangled Phe becomes in the haunting past of Shadow Hills. Finding what links her to this town…might cost her her life. (Source)

Review
SHADOW HILLS, by Anastasia Hopcus, is an intriguing story that intertwines supernatural and science. Hopcus created very unique characters and circumstances that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I loved the mix of science and supernatural elements in this book. It was unlike anything I have read thus far and I was interested right from the start to see where these elements would connect. The town of Shadow Hills in itself was a character and the mystery behind it was fascinating. In this book, you get a taste of the history of the town and the strange happenings in it.

The characters in this book were pretty fantastic. I felt that these characters were very honest. In life, people create their own groups of friends and in this book it was mostly the outsiders versus the townies. Phe broke the mold when she attempted to make a connection with a townie, the enigmatic and gorgeous Zach. The relationship between Phe and Zach was steamy and electric, literally. They connected in many ways even though the pressure of keeping the secret of Shadow Hills weighed on their relationship.

The only downside to this book was that I felt there was more to explore with these characters and the town of Shadow Hills. I had a ton of questions left unanswered by the end of the book, so I am keeping my eyes peeled for a sequel. Hopcus has a great writing style and I found myself captivated right from the start. I am anticipating the continuation of this series and for future works from this talented debut author.
